About me

                            WELCOME!

My name is Joselyn and I would like to welcome everyone to this special blog I will be keeping for the next few months.  I am currently a full-time Polysomnography Tech ( sleep tech) working with mostly pediatric patients.  I am also a full-time student.  I'm working towards my BA in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health.  Hopefully after I'm done with that, I'll be able to go for my Master's in Public Health.

So as you've noticed, this blog is going to be about my journey with InvisAlign as well as a new product in the market called AcceleDent.  I've never met anyone using invisAlign, that I know of, so I'm hoping sharing my experience with people I know, and others, I'm able to give them some insight on the whole product and the whole experience.

Growing up I've always had pretty messed up teeth.  What started everything was when my parents would let me sleep with my baby bottle all night long.  They also let me have the bottle longer than usual. Now, I'm not talking long enough that I can remember drinking out of it, but longer than recommended.  I was their first born, so they didn't know any better and were young.  The damage from that was very big and something I've been dealing with my entire life.

Throughout elementary school and middle school, I remember my two front teeth being rotten.  I always knew they weren't the way they were suppose to be, but when one of my classmates asked me about it, that's when I started feeling self conscious about it and really noticing my smile.

By high school, the dentist was able to somewhat fix my front teeth and I remember have to get root canals.  For a little while there, I remember my teeth being in the best shape they had ever been in, even though they were not perfect.  Between the root canals and me chipping my teeth on a cherry pit,  it was obvious that I had a lot of work done on my two front teeth.  I stopped drinking soda to avoid any more stains to those front teeth and didn't start having the occassional soda until six years later.

In between high school and through my twenties, a new problem started to arise.  Two of my teeth ( the ones next to the two front teeth) started to twist and move inward.  One of them (as you'll see in the pics) has gone so far back, that it looks like I'm missing a tooth. This has been the biggest blow to my self confidence.  Especially, when your pediatric patients ask what's wrong with your teeth.  How are you suppose to explain that to a curious 3 year old?

After one too many of those questions from the kids,  I decided it was time I do something about it.  One morning at 7am, I called FreySmiles Orthodontics and made an appointment.  I decided it was time for me to take control of my smile and my teeth.
